Kuwait's water is desalinated and re-mineralised, and by the time it reaches an upper-floor shower it usually still carries chlorine — the thing that dries skin and hair. This filter uses KDF-55 and calcium sulfite, the two media that actually reduce chlorine at shower temperatures, and its ½-inch thread fits the hoses used in Kuwaiti villas and apartments without an adapter. We ran it for six weeks in a Salmiya flat: the chlorine smell was gone from day one, and TDS stayed the same — as expected, because this is a filter, not a softener.
— The Ghalya team · How we test
Good for
Dry skin after showers · hair fall linked to chlorine · new buildings with a strong chlorine smell · renters who can't drill
Not for
Lowering TDS or softening hard water — that needs a softener. If your TDS reads over 400, start with the tester below.

Questions people ask
Will it fit my shower hose?
Yes for any standard ½-inch hose, which is what almost every Kuwaiti apartment and villa uses. It goes between the hose and the head — no plumber, no tools beyond hand-tight.
Does it help with hair fall?
It removes the chlorine that dries hair and scalp, which is one common cause. It is not a treatment — if the cause is something else, a filter won't change it.
How often do I change the cartridge here?
About every four months for a family of four in Kuwait. We message you at month four so you don't have to track it.
